Life after Death ?

What are everyones thoughts on the afterlife?

Im assuming most people reading this will be athiests?

As far as i know there appears to be 3 options after death

1/ Heaven

2/ Hell

3/ Nothing at all

What if we are wrong about there being no God? Or what if our God (Jesus) isn’t the real God. What if the real God was Allah?

Seems like there are more ways to get to hell than heaven.

You may say this isn’t a good Friday topic! However i disagree, knowing most of you as i do, i suspect you will be in a good state for discussing this tonight! I know i will.

Lets fucking tackle this age old subject! everycunt :-)

Megrahi will die soon, says Kenny Macaskill

I saw the Kenny Macaskill interview on the 6 o’clock news tonight.

He said the doctor who claimed Megrahi had 3 months to live had “ impeachable integrity” and assured us all that Mehgrahi will be dead soon.

Hold on a minute, this is a mans life!

Our justice secretary came on the telly at 6 o’clock to assure us that a man we’re supposed to hate will die soon.  At 6 o’clock when weans are sitting in front of the telly having dinner.

The Death at Six.

Regardless of what the guy did, is it not fucking shameful to talk like that, at that time of night in front of hundreds of thousands of people including tens of thousands of weans.

“Don’t worry, Scotland. He will die. His brain will die, his heart will stop, his lungs will sigh no more. Rigamortis will set in, he’ll have a giant boner, he’ll be put in a box then put in the ground for all eternity. By the way, his body will rot as well.

The fucking death at Six.

This post is not about America, its not about what Megrahi did, (or didn’t do) and its not about Kenny Macaskill, its about the fatal nature of our society.  A top politician was allowed to advertise Megrahi’s death as a good thing, on our countrys top news show at 6pm, because the politicians and the media believe thats what the people of Scotland want.

I would very much prefer Kenny Macaskill to be sacked this year, than Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi to die this year.

My questions to the readers are..

Are they right, Do you as a Scotsman/Scotswoman want Megrahi dead? Do you think his death will benefit Scotland, and do you feel it was right that stv broadcast an interview of this nature at that time of night?

The Bold Karen

Ive been dating her for around a month and recently popped the big question..

“wull ye be ma burd”

and she went like that..

“aye awrite en”

I rarely mention girlfriends on the blog, but the bold Karen needs an introduction because, unlike the other recent bold girlfriends, i think she will be sticking around. Ive finally met a boldyin of substance :-)

She doesnt know i write a blog and i don’t think im going to tell her. I showed her the photo i sent to Sean Batty, (the bare chested one) and she gave me a look which can only be described as “the look of doubt”. So i think its best to keep her in the dark about my filthy foul mouthed diaries.

So that is my question to everyone, what does your other half think about your blog and other internet exploits (videos etc)

Have you ever got into trouble with him/her because of something you have written?

Ive set up this twitter account http://twitter.com/iloveshaunbatty and i’d like you all to follow it.

Tonight i will be on Sean Batty’s twitter playing his obsessed fan with stalkerish tendencies. If i do it right it will be funny, or it will fail, but either way tune in from 10pm tonight and watch me in action.

Remember to follow this twitter page http://twitter.com/iloveshaunbatty to make it look like a cult fan page.

I thank you :-)

The Scheme

I live in West Dalmuir very near to where this photo was taken beside the train station.

I like staying here, its central to just about everything. Glasgow, Loch Lomond, the clyde, the cycle path and it has the best park for miles around plus a good golf course.

Its a highly populated area. Theres at least 5,000 folk living within a radius of one mile. Probably much more than that. Most of the time its quiet, occasionally its a wee bit dangerous. Auld firm day is tense, and at weekends after midnight its better to be off the street.

My most notorious story about living here comes from my time in the high flats. I woke up one morning and could smell smoke but couldnt see any sign of a fire. I ignored it and turned on the telly. When the Scottish news came on i found out the smell was from a fire in my block of flats. It was arson and three fire engines had battled it through the night while i slept through the whole thing.

Is there any good stories from scheme land out there? Anything your area has done good or bad that has ended up on the news?

One Year Today!

Its a year today since my first ever blog post http://www.wayupnorth.tv/2009/08/10/the-first-post/

Since then ive had 5,000 visitors and 49,000 page views. Ive written 209 posts which have generated 1,138 comments with 49 comments being the record for one post.

When i started i wasn’t sure what i wanted to do. I knew i wanted to have a laugh most of all, but i also wanted to take on some serious subjects and put my thoughts out there.

A year on the agenda is much the same. I want to annoy some folk and make others laugh. I want to get out there and show the world pictures of Scotland. And i want to star in a porno.

Thanks to everyone who has tuned in over the last year and especially the folks who have left comments. Also big thanks to david the computer whizz who fixes the site whenever it crashes :-)

CHEERS!

Top Fives: Best Albums of all time

Obviously one person can’t say what the greatest albums of all time are, and its cheeky to only mention five, i could have mentioned fifty! But this blog only does top fives and these are my favourites, bearing in mind i grew up in the 80′s/90′s and i think that reflects these choices.

For me, a great album is one that you never need to skip a track. Every single track is listenable every single time.

In reverse order..

5/ R.E.M. – Automatic for the People (1992) Strangely i think the opening track is the weakest, “Drive” is still a good song and eases you into the rest of the album gently before it gets better and better. The next 3 tracks are modern classics with the pick of the bunch being “Everybody Hurts”. The middle third of the album is so chilled its almost vertical and this is the point where you would fall asleep if listening in bed, the finale is as good as it gets with three amazing songs “Man on the Moon”, “Nightswimming” and “Find the River”. The whole album shows that music doesn’t need to be fast or upbeat to be powerful.

4/ The Verve – Urban Hymns (1997) This came along at the right time for me. I was starting to leave my youthful hardcore raver days behind, and this put me on the righteous path to rock. Every tune is extremely listenable, its all in the right order and i never need to skip a track. My least favourite track is ”the drugs dont work” its slightly depressing, but its a powerful song which fits well with the rest of the set. At least 8 of the 13 tracks could stand up for themselves as singles, with the opening track “Bittersweet Symphony” and track 9 “Lucky Man” being two of the best. It was a  bold and provocative release, the highpoint of the bands career. A brilliant band who as yet, have never fulfilled their potential.

3/ Pink Floyd – Dark Side of the Moon (1973) This wont be in everyone’s list, in fact for years i didn’t like Pink Floyd, they were too slow and dull. It was only as i got older i began to hear something that i previously hadn’t. Dark Side of the Moon blends together like 1 long track instead of 10 individuals, its almost completely uncomercial apart from the 6th track ”Money”. The rest of the album pushed the boundries of what was possible at the time. Its a journey that everyone should experience sometime in their life. Its also interesting to play the album while watching the film The Wizard of Oz.  ”On the run”, “Time” and “Great Gig in the Sky” back to back make an astonishing 15 minutes of music. It could be the best album ever, but for me its only number 3 :-)

2/ The Beatles – Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) Some folk will be outraged that this wonderful album only came 2nd out of five! It would be in many peoples top five out of 100. I first heard it in the 80′s when i was a wee boy, my parents were Beatles fans and had it on 12″ vinyl. Its a mark of the Beatles genius that they were able write music a child could appreciate as much as an adult. (except i didn’t understand the drug references) “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”, “With a little help from my friends”, “When im sixty-four”, “Sgt Pepper” and “Getting Better” will be classics forever. Confidence is oozing out of this album and i feel confident everytime i hear it. Even by the Beatles high standards this is an incredible piece of work.

1/ Nirvana - Nevermind (1991) This album is a whole lot of fun. Completely opposite to Automatic for the People, its mostly an upbeat buzz that i could listen to at anytime of the day, any season of the year. Not great for bed time is the only negative thing i can say. Its a modern masterpiece that inspired millions to join the grunge movement that dominated the early 90′s music scene. There isn’t a stand out track, all 12 tracks seem to be written as a single unit, one complimenting the next as the album rolls along. My own favourite tracks are “Territorial Pissings”, “In Bloom”, “Polly” and “Breed” but every single track is brilliant.

Thanks for reading and feel free to add your own favourite top five in the comments.
